How to make sporting events greener

The Tour de France began yesterday. The event has been going on for 100 years (the first was in 1903) and except for the years during World Wars I and II, it’s been held every year. Sporting events attract tourists, and that’s good for a country’s economy, right? But how about the environmental and ecological impact?
