Someone traveling from New York to San Francisco by train (Amtrak) filmed this montage on an iPhone and edited it using iMovie.
A couple of things I thought about:
- America sure is big (3 days to cross it by train). Right now, there’s no shinkansen connecting Honshu to Hokkaido, but there will be in March. I’m not sure, but I think it would take about 12 hours or so to go from the top of Honshu to the bottom of Kyushu. Google tells me it’s 11 hours and 37 minutes, and costs ¥42,280.
- Amtrak sure is slow. Or so it seems, compared to riding the shinkansen. But a quick search tells me that the Amtrak’s top speed is 150 mph (241 kph). That’s faster than I expected. But the shinkansen’s is 320 kph (with tests run at 443 kph).
