Christmas is traditionally a time for gift-giving. If you exchange gifts, have you thought about what to give your family and friends this year? What’s the best gift you’ve ever given or gotten?
Here’s a list (from Quartz) from some famous people. The first is Melinda Gates’ story (she’s married to Bill). She says the best gift she’s ever gotten was an Apple computer when she was in high school. Funny.
Some of the things on the list are actual purchasable gifts, but some (predictably) are not. And then there’s philanthropy — donating money or clothes or something else is another traditional way to give during the holidays. Does Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement count?
This is the Quakers’ favorite song (though originally a Shaker dance tune) but it’s a great message for gift-giving and also for language learning: sometimes simple is best.
